There’s Stuff You Don’t See

A picture’s worth a thousand words.

I publish lots of words about the FREEDOM TOUR. I write about the community and the cause, but the pictures really tell the story.

Pictures show the ride, the climbs, the laughs, the prayers in a way words can’t describe. We have LOTS of images. You can go to our photo page and flip through the entire ride, but even then…

There’s stuff you don’t see

You don’t see it because it happens in the background. No colorful jerseys or interesting scenery. In any big endeavor, the stuff you don’t see makes everything else possible.

Road bikes are fairly fragile (and expensive). We’ve constantly sought better, safer ways to transport our bikes. The black fork mounts are a great solution, but they require removal of the front wheels. We’ve tried several ideas but never found a good, compact way to secure those pesky loose wheels.

Craig searched the Internet and found a concept. After a few hours experimenting in his shop, he appeared with a prototype. We worked with it and he made a few notes. Then it was back to the shop.

A couple of days later, Craig delivered a set of custom-built wheel holders…a simple, elegant solution to a nagging problem.

Craig wouldn’t want this attention. He wouldn’t want me to tell you about his amazing invention, or about the other stuff he and his wife Diana do to move this dream forward. They don’t ride bikes, but they’re essential, core members of the FREEDOM TOUR team. We could not do this without them…and many others who don’t always show up in the photo ops.

Craig would tell you he simply enjoyed some time in his shop. He’d say designing and building the wheel holders wasn’t a big deal, he just saw a problem he could solve so he solved it.

I say he did what he could, where he was, with what he had. And when you put that together with lots of others doing the stuff you don’t see, a God-sized dream moves down the road.
