The Biggest Ride Around

I get lots of emails offering to help us grow our ride.

It’s tempting. It would be kinda fun, and perhaps a bit of an ego boost, to be The Biggest Ride Around (TBRA). Once in a while I let myself imagine hundreds (thousands?) of FREEDOM TOUR cyclists crisscrossing Northern Colorado. All those jerseys and opportunities to spread the message.

Then I shake my head and remember stories from friends who’ve done other big rides. Fun for sure, but there’s a trade-off. People gravitate to the FREEDOM TOUR precisely because they wanted something beyond riding just to ride.

They wanted their miles to matter. They wanted to be part of a community, a story, a cause.

Can we become TBRA and still advance the cause, tell the story, be a community? I’m sure we can. For me, though, it’s a matter of which comes first.

I’m gonna keep telling the story. I’m gonna do my best to help people understand the joy of making their miles matter.

If we become TBRA along the way? Well, that would be cool, too.
