We’re great at constructing them.
Once created, we set them in stone and pretend there’s no other way of thinking. So in the U.S. you’re BLUE or RED. And we all know wat that means, right?
I’m thinking about human trafficking, about our kids and their mothers who have been so horribly abused. What should we seek for their abusers?
Justice? Mercy? Forgiveness?
I think most of us instantly default to a continuum, something like justice on one and mercy/forgiveness on the other. We’d place ourselves somewhere on the line, perhaps visualising some sort of compromise or plea bargain.
But what if it’s not a continuum at all? What if, as followers of Jesus we’re to hold all those at once?
That would flip the tables.
