What’s Your Big Story?

Last time I said you and I need a quest.

Maybe “quest” is the wrong word. Maybe “quest” evokes images of leaving home in search of some elusive, ethereal vision, of Don Quixote tilting at windmills.

In RICH’S RIDE I talked of following a dream.

A dream is the God-inspired desire to share your unique gifts and passions to serve others and change the world.

This thing I describe–dream, quest, or whatever other term we choose–will include these attributes.

A story bigger than yourself. God won’t inspire us to something easy, something we can accomplish alone. We’ll need Him.

Community. We were created to live in relationships. If it’s God-inspired, we’ll do it with others and for others.

Hope. God-inspired means it’s too big for us to know the outcome. We do what we can, where we are, with what we have. We plant seeds with confidence in a future we can’t see.

Most dreams look a lot like people living their lives.

Jon is a hospital chaplain. He sits with folks in times of pain and doubt.

Kari adopted kids from different places and backgrounds. Her family navigates life together.

Mark’s a Trail Master in Rocky Mountain National Park. His team hikes and maintains trails and helps others experience God’s creation.

Mike’s a Big Brother. He and Jared hang out and do all sorts of fun stuff.

You see? All kinds of ways to write a story bigger than ourselves, to lean on God for an outcome we can’t produce or predict. Lots of ways to join Jesus on a journey of hope, with others, for others.

What’s yours?
