Why People Come Back

A friend asked me why she should join the FREEDOM TOUR team.

I’ve listed the benefits before:

  • Be part of a story bigger than yourself.
  • Support kids rescued from human trafficking.
  • Step out of your comfort zone.
  • Stand for justice.
  • Challenge yourself physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
  • Get closer to God.
  • Have fun.

As I made my list, I thought about something my friend Doug said.

17 alumni

People join this team for lots of reasons, but they come back for the community.

I enjoy riding my bike. I love supporting the kids at the HOME OF HOPE. I’m committed to doing what I can to raise awareness about the horrible crime of human trafficking. I’m fascinated by all that goes into making the FREEDOM TOUR happen–the jersey design, church hosts, all of it.

But the best part, the thing that energizes me and keeps me going, is the circle of folks surrounding this remarkable project. When you join the FREEDOM TOUR you get to be a part of that circle. You get to be a part of a group of folks who understand the nature of shared sacrifice, folks who’ve climbed hills and been tired and seen beauty together, who’ve laughed and struggled and prayed together.

It’s worth clicking here to see our alumni, each person who’s made the commitment to this journey. Also cool to note how many have returned 2 and 3 (and even 4) times.

This terrific thing happens when folks who’ve toured together reunite. Hugs and handshakes, of course, but there’s an unspoken familiarity, a sort of quiet bond that comes from sharing long days in the saddle and quiet evenings around meals and stories.

Of course, it doesn’t end there. We don’t do this so we can form some sort of closed club with special t-shirts and cool jerseys and a secret handshake. The whole point is to share the story, to radiate a light that attracts others to learn about its source.

We would love to have you join us. Click a link and check it out.

It’s gonna be a blast!
