Meet A Real Hero (Sort Of)

heroI’d like to tell you about a hero.

She serves the kids at the HOME OF HOPE. Every month, in somewhat halting English, she sends updates. Praise reports, prayer requests, progress of individual kids (with names changed). Despite a constant scramble for staff and resources, her updates are always filled with joy and gratitude.

I’d like to tell you all about this heroic woman who serves sacrificially in difficult circumstances. I’d like to tell you her name, show her photo, but doing so would place both her work and her personal safety at risk.

Like so many heroes, this woman serves quietly in the shadows.

Strange, isn’t it? We heap money onto people, plaster their images everywhere, who contribute far less than this humble woman. I’m reminded of Jesus’ words: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, the meek, the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers.”

Jesus proposed a different accounting system, one in which this woman is a rock star. It has radical values like service, sacrifice, and “the last shall be first.” Community and relationships matter. Winning doesn’t.

I can’t tell you much about this woman, but her work is worth supporting.

It’s one reason we do the FREEDOM TOUR. We won’t solve human trafficking. We can change the world for this woman and the kids she serves.

Our dream goal is to raise the $100,000 she needs to operate the HOPE OF HOPE for an entire year. Just the sort of crazy, God-sized dream we love to follow!
