Is It Time to Leap?

Happy Leap Year!

Usually I’m all about training and continuous, incremental improvement. Keep riding, running, walking, talking to God, day by day, and over the long term big changes happen.

Yesterday, on Leap Day, I looked back at my life and noticed a few points at which the move from Point A to Point B required something more than baby steps. Some decisions presented a gap, and the gap required a leap.

Several years ago I showed some of my writing to a few friends and they said, “You ought to publish a book.” So I messed around with the idea for a number of years, improved the stories, showed it to more people, and received positive feedback. Baby steps. Could have continued that process forever without ever producing a book.

I had to hire an agent and seek a publisher, do the things required to actually publish a book. Once I made that leap, continuous improvement happened on the other side and RELENTLESS GRACE was born.

A Leap Of Faith

I think we mis-use the term “leap of faith” as followers of Jesus.

leap

A leap of faith doesn’t mean jumping blindly into the abyss and hoping for the best.

If I feel myself pulled to become involved, I talk to God, seek wisdom, ask for guidance. At some point if I believe it’s the right thing–I jump in.

But when I leap as a follower of Jesus, I do it with HOPE, the confident expectation that God keeps His promises. I leap believing that God works for good in all circumstances, that the moral arc of the universe bends toward justice and that He’ll use my actions toward that end.

Is this your time to leap, perhaps across a gap or up a level?
