Do You Know An Invisible Servant?

wash feetIt’s not about me.

How often do we  say it? Today I want to tell you about someone who lives it–an authentic, invisible servant.

We had a minor mishap this week, a few inches of water in our basement that made a general mess of things. Got the cleanup done, now we”re dealing with mold and  some repairs as we prepare to hit the road in a week for TAOS TO TUCSON 2013. With Becky’s hand in a cast, it’s been a bit of a challenging few days.

Of course we’re surrounded by devastation from terrible floods, so we’re certainly not complaining. But it is a mess to be addressed.

The phone rings. “What do you need?” And you wonder how she even knew, except that’s what invisible servants do. They don’t wait to be asked.

And people start showing up, doing stuff you didn’t ask them to do. “I hear you need this,” they say, and after awhile you just smile because you know who sent them. It’s a little silly because there’s so much need, but that doesn’t matter. You’re being cared for, and you might as well fall back and accept it.

This same person is juggling about a million things at once, behind the scenes, just making sure stuff gets done and every person sees Jesus. And that’s exactly what happens.

I don’t get it. People like this should be celebrated, except of course that would defeat their purpose. So they go on being the hands and feet of Jesus while others stand in front of cameras.

People like this don’t get much credit. But I wanted to tell you about this one, and say thank you to her. I’ll bet you know someone who plays a similar role.

Maybe you want to say thank you.
