Get Off My Lawn

I don’t have to invite people to toss their trash on my lawn.

I do, though, through TV and social media, the “junk” I invite into my brain. Do you have any of that in your life?

I wonder why, when I know there’s a better way.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

I want to be informed, for sure, and I like to relax and enjoy. But when I voluntarily offer my space as a trash dump, I either have to look at the mess or spend time and energy cleaning it up.

As someone who deals with depression, I probably ruminate about the clutter more than most folks. And since I’m an old guy with limited energy, whatever I devote to the rubbish detracts from time spent doing what I really want to do – seek justice, love my neighbor…the stuff Jesus asked me to do.

I guess I’m in good company.

I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.

So I guess my trash problem might be more common than I think. Maybe you deal with this as well?

If so, perhaps we can agree together to clean up the neighborhood and invite a bit less debris onto our “lawns.”
