As cyclists get older, they start talking about “riding their age” on their birthday.
A 49-year-old will ride 49 miles, and then continue it each year. One more mile doesn’t sound like much until you get to 65 years old riding 65 miles.
When you enter my age group, riding your age is a bit of an accomplishment.
I’ve never done it, mostly because those sorts of challenges don’t really motivate me. But last week Becky said, “Why don’t you and I ride 72 miles on your birthday for the kids at the Home of Hope?”
Sure, why not?
Tomorrow is birthday #72, and my lovely wife and I will celebrate by riding our bikes 72 miles together. What could be more fun?
We’ll have to do it in two chunks, because for a lot of reasons I can’t sit on the bike for six hours without a break. But 72 miles is 72 miles, right?
