Why Not Armies?

I like to think about Jesus hanging out with our 22 kids.

Not literally, of course, like He did with His friends for three years. But I absolutely believe He’s with them, just as He’s been with them every moment of their precious lives.

I like to think of Him around the table with them, laughing when they laugh, crying when they cry. I like to remember that He’s with them when they’re lonely and scared, when they wonder why the world seems so mean and dangerous.

And when I wonder why we don’t send armies to stop the horrors of human trafficking and remove these kids from danger, I remember Jesus’ words when Peter drew a sword to defend Him.

“Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?”

Jesus loves those kids more than I can imagine. If I want to protect them and keep them out of danger, just imagine his desire to do that. If he believed armies would solve the problem, He could summon plenty of firepower.

Jesus told Peter to put his sword back in its place.

I believe He is protecting those kids, and all the other victims of injustice, in ways you and I cannot possibly understand. Maybe not short-term in the ways we want, but I absolutely believe He holds them safely in the hollow of His hand.

That doesn’t mean you and I are supposed to stand by and do nothing. We are called to do what we can, where we are, with what we have for those who are oppressed.

The FREEDOM TOUR community his decided to support this very special group of 22 kids. We won’t solve the problem of human trafficking – only Jesus can do that, and He will, in His time.

But together, we can partner with Jesus to bring hope and freedom to these children, to give them the opportunity to grow into the beautiful men and women God created them to be.

We’re grateful for the opportunity, and for all of you who joined us on this journey of hope.
