In 1979, Bob Dylan released his Grammy award-winning song Gotta Serve Somebody.
The theme was pretty simple. Doesn’t matter who you are, how much you have or don’t have, where you live, your station in life…in the end, everybody serves something or somebody.
Dylan’s profound lyrics are a take-off on something I say a lot: “Everyone believes in something.”
And, of course, we end up serving whatever we believe in.

I think about this notion a lot as we’re ramping up for the FREEDOM TOUR. It’s awfully easy for me to get into the weeds of routes and logistics, and those things are important.
But when something’s not working exactly the way I want it to work, I can get pretty frustrated at the lack of perfection and forget that what we’re doing really isn’t about a bike ride. And maybe I’m trying to impress somebody other than the one who really matters in this whole thing.
I have a hard time finding the balance. I think Jesus wants me to do well, to do my best. I also don’t think he wants me to be so focused on the outcome then I lose the joy of what we’re doing.
Dylan was right. You gotta serve somebody.
I want to make the right choice.
