Bad Timing

The time is always right to do what is right. ~MLK

When planning the 1963 March on Washington, President Kennedy met with Dr. King and expressed concern that the event was perhaps “ill-timed.”

Dr King responded, “Frankly, I have never engaged in any direct-action movement that did not seem ill-timed.”

Each year on the MLK holiday I read Dr. King’s Letter From Birmingham Jail. The words always remind me that following Jesus, taking Him seriously, has very real costs. This year I’m especially aware of what Dr. King called “the fierce urgency of now.”

It’s almost never the right time to get in the way. If you ask for permission, those in charge will advise you to wait.

Victims of injustice shouldn’t have to wait for a more convenient time.
