Thank You

It’s the week for Thank You.

Becky and I will be traveling on the big day. No feast. No football. Just us, the road, and whatever fast food is available.

No Thanksgiving, I guess.

Or maybe it’s not about a holiday.

President Lincoln proclaimed the first National Day Of Thanksgiving in 1863. Immersed in the darkness of Civil War, Mr. Lincoln chose to list multiple blessings and clearly ascribe them to Almighty God.

I’m all in favor of feasts and holidays. I enjoy a day of too-much football, and I’ll support anything that reminds us to be thankful. But this particular holiday always makes me feel a little guilty.

Thanksgiving reminds me of how much I take for granted. I remember how often I forget to stop and say, “Thank You.”

Thank You ought to be as central to our lives as breathing. For me, it’s not.

I hope this Thanksgiving isn’t just a day. I hope it’s a reminder to me – and maybe to you – to be more aware of opportunities to interrupt my day and tell Jesus I’m grateful.

Thank You.
