Kerfuffles

There are always kerfuffles.

You can plan and prepare all you want. Doesn’t matter. Something always happens that you didn’t expect.

The test is how you handle it. Is your system resilient enough to deal with kerfuffles when they arise?

During the FREEDOM TOUR CLASSIC, our biggest event of the year, I didn’t want to get a phone call that began with, “Don’t worry, Becky’s okay…” because I know it means she wasn’t okay. Especially when the next sentences involved words like “ambulance” and “hospital.”

There’s been a kerfuffle.

Turned out she really was okay, mostly. Except for the fractured left wrist that needs surgery and the fractured right elbow that’s really painful.

But the system worked. People rallied, Becky was well cared for, and the day concluded successfully. One kerfuffle didn’t break us.

I’m grateful. For so many people who took over and surrounded Becky with love and support. For volunteers who kept the day moving, because what we were doing mattered. For folks who got me where I needed to go when I was a bit distracted.

Mostly I’m grateful for an amazing team who worked hard to make the FREEDOM TOUR CLASSIC such an awesome event. Despite the kerfuffles.

There are always kerfuffles.
