Just Pick Up Your Corner

Four friends carried a paralyzed man to see Jesus.

They were pretty determined. According to Mark the four friends fought through a large crowd, lugged their friend onto the roof, cut a hole, and lowered him into the room where Jesus was eating dinner.

Lots of lessons in this familiar story, many sermons, tons of theology. For me, though, one simple detail stands out.

Four friends.

Carrying an adult through the streets, battling the crowd, and dragging him onto the roof – for one person that’s difficult if not impossible. So these four guys got together, each one picked up a corner, and off they went. They didn’t have to do the whole job by themselves.

Each one just had to pick up his corner.

Lots of people needed to see Jesus…those four guys only brought one. They didn’t fix the world, but their efforts changed their friend’s life in ways they couldn’t imagine.

It’s God’s design. The problems that matter are mostly too big for any person, or any group of people, to solve. He doesn’t expect us to end poverty or solve hunger by ourselves.

He asks only that we pick up our corner.

At the FREEDOM TOUR, we cycle to bring hope and freedom to kids rescued from human trafficking. But human trafficking is a huge domestic and global problem, and our project isn’t going to solve it. Rather than surrendering, throwing up our hands in the face of such horrific evil, we choose to pick up our corner.

For us, that means supporting a couple dozen kids at the HOME OF HOPE. We won’t fix the problem, but our efforts can change the world for those kids.

We need you to join us. Easy to read this and think “Way to go.” I’m asking if you’ll consider picking up a corner.

I know – you’ve never done anything like this. I’ll bet none of those four guys never carried a paralyzed man onto a roof or cut an impromptu skylight in a stranger’s house or lowered someone into a dinner party before, until they did it.

We have lots of corners. You can:

  • Ride a bike.
  • Volunteer.
  • Spread the word and encourage a cyclist friend to join us.
  • Donate.

You just need to pick up your corner.
