Most people think we choose between fear and courage.
Coward or hero. Live in fear or face it, that’s how the choice is framed.
Perhaps one of my lasting impressions of FREEDOM TOUR 2017 comes from the story behind this photo. (Click the link to read the inspirational tale of Phil and J.C.)
I suppose it’s a story of courage. Phil let J.C. ride his high-tech road bike, risking possible costly damage. He took a physical risk by riding J.C.’s clunky old bike with ill-fitting saddle and pedals. Risk = fear, facing fear = courage.
But ultimately this story is about love. Unconditional, sacrificial love, caring more about another than about self.
“There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear.” (1 John 4:18a)
Our core choice is always love or fear. Choose love and we get courage as a side benefit.
