A Ripple Comes Home

We talk a lot about creating ripples.

Our actions disturb the surface. Mostly we don’t know the ultimate outcome, but we trust God’s hand to guide the waves for good. Occasionally a small swell laps the shore right at our feet.

Perhaps you recall my friend Scott Acton and his bike trip around the world (click for the whole crazy story). When he left on his epic journey in April 2016, I handed him one of our FREEDOM TOUR rocks.

Scott confided later that he thought a rock to carry on a bike trip was a pretty strange gift. He carried it 10,000 miles anyway, and said it came to mean a great deal to him.

Last week Scott met with a friend who’s experienced some setbacks…parent’s death, major chronic health issues, wife decided to leave. Scott’s friend feels scared, isolated, and lonely.

He confessed he thought about the hope rock nearly every day during Scott’s bike tour, because he’s completely lost hope.

Scott can’t do much for his friend beyond being a friend. He did, however, pass along the rock.

He told his friend to hold onto it for a while…a tangible symbol of holding onto hope.
