How To Sell Cycling In Snow

It’s winter right now.

Snow. Cold. Ice. Ski racks and skating rinks. No one (in their right mind) rides a bike in that kind of weather unless they have to. And here we are, talking about cycling, asking people to invest in a dream that involves shorts and warm days and sunny skies and it’s a few months away.

Trouble is, you and I aren’t all that good at “a few months away,” especially when it’s unexplored territory. We prefer the familiar comfort of “right now.” So I sit on the couch because it’s hard to picture the results–a few months from now–of working out right now.

We can help by showing pictures and video, trying to bring the feel of future into now. We can show folks they’re joining an ongoing community, not some imagined team that will develop later.

Those help because they make the choice a bit more about right now. Which is where we’re comfortable and safe.

Dreams, however, mostly aren’t about right now. Dreams ask us to imagine an unexplored path to an undetermined outcome in an uncertain future. Dreams invite us to challenge preconceived ideas about what’s possible.

Dreams are long-term because God’s long-term. We want immediate answers and God says He works for good in all circumstances in His timing. We ask How? and God says Hope is a confident expectation based on faith that He always keeps His promises.

We see impossible and God says Hope Changes What’s Possible.

We see Winter and God says we can believe Him for Springtime and warm breezes.

And, of course, I hope you understand this is about a lot more than selling cycling in snow.
