How did riding a handcycle change your attitude?
It’s been a nagging question, part of my story that never quite made sense. Everyone knows a better attitude (whatever that means) would lead to a better life. Thing is, I don’t think there’s an “Easy Button” for changing attitudes.
Here’s an idea: what if you don’t worry about your attitude at all?
What if you just do something positive, like riding a handcycle? And you look at it and say, “Wow, that was cool.” So you do it again. And again.
Before you realize it, you’re the guy who’s doing a cool thing, over and over. Not changing your attitude, just doing something positive and worthwhile.
So I go from the guy sitting around feeling sorry for myself to the guy riding my handcycle every day. From the guy who can’t to the guy who can. From the guy who’s scared of getting caught in the rain (yeah, true) to the guy who realized a little rain wouldn’t kill him.
You didn’t set out to change your attitude. But you did.
See the recipe?
Do something positive. Something you believe in. Something that matters.
Start small. Do it again. Build up a little, because what you’re doing matters.
Change what you do. Let God work on your heart.
