Was Your Injury A Good Thing?

hope“Are you better because of your injury?”

It was the question of the evening at the Teen Challenge Home of Hope in Casa Grande. So finally I asked my own question.

“Are you asking if I believe my injury was a good thing?”

They all nodded. Since they’re in recovery, they want to believe there’s redemption for their horrible experiences. So the old teacher reframed the discussion.

“So it’s clear—God has used the terrible experience of my injury for a great deal of good, right? (Nods) That’s His promise. That’s the basis for our hope.”

“But do you think He could work for good in the life of a non-paralyzed person? (Nods) So He didn’t ‘need’ my injury to advance His plan?” (Nods)

“See, I believe God works for good in ALL circumstances, and He didn’t need my injury or your painful experiences to bring good into our lives.

“I don’t like being in a wheelchair. It hurts, and I don’t believe it was God’s plan for me.

“He didn’t cause my injury or your addictions, but He won’t waste one bit of our pain. All of it will be redeemed and used for good.

“That’s His promise. Count on it. And follow your dream with hope.

“Hope changes what’s possible.”

It was a good evening.
