We all did it at some point. We put off studying for the exam and deluded ourselves into believing we could cram it all into an all-nighter.
It doesn’t work.
Learning, training, and following Jesus are long-term deals. Building character, growing communities, developing relationships, accumulating wisdom—the things that matter are life-long, day-by-day processes.
I missed about four weeks of training before we arrived in Tucson. First I had some minor surgery, then my accident sidelined me, and some cold weather finished off the month. I hoped a few days of warm Tucson weather would let me get accustomed to riding again, but I’m not silly enough to believe I can cram a month of lost training into a single week.
We become the small things we do, day after day, for weeks and months and years. A week or two, here and there, won’t matter much in the big picture—unless you miss a month of training right before a 55-mile ride. Then you might face some consequences.
But it is what it is. There’s no sense trying to cram.
What’s the big thing you want to develop?
Maybe it’s time to take step #1 and then keep going, doing whatever it is that’ll build something amazing a little it at a time.
