I believe God keeps His promises.
Jesus said, “Knock and the door will be opened to you.”
So yesterday we spent much of the day trying to get through a door we were sure should open, and I was a bit disappointed when it remained firmly shut. Clearly, the gatekeeper didn’t get the memo.
In my workshop I sometimes ask a volunteer to push open the classroom door. I get a confused look, since the door swings inward.
“It’s a simple request,” I repeat. “I want the door pushed open.”
“But…it won’t work. The door swings in. I can open it, but not your way.”
“I want it opened MY way!” I demand with mock fury.
See the point?
Even if you’re knocking at the right door, you need to allow it to open as God intends, when He intends.
It won’t work to kick it open because you’re sure you’re right. Even if you manage to force your way in, you’re playing God.
God does keep His promises. If I knock and the door doesn’t open, it wasn’t the right door, or it wasn’t the right time, or I was trying to force it open rather than allowing Jesus to open it.

I did a nice 25-mile ride from Sparta to La Crosse yesterday morning. The weather’s turned chilly, so we’ll see what today holds.
We’ll keep knocking. I absolutely believe the doors will open.

A good reminder, especially when life is in transition. PS. I am freezing up north!
