Celebrate

HAPPY MONDAY!

The end of a long, enjoyable journey brings us today’s word-of-the-week…

CELEBRATE

A relaxing 42-mile ride on Saturday closed out the 500 mile bike ride portion of TAOS TO TUCSON 2013.

When you complete a big goal, you celebrate. It’s important to mark important milestones with parties, special meals, and joyful gatherings. For me, the 500-mile celebration included a visit to Tucson’s Monkey Burger and the craziest hamburger I’ve ever seen.

The whole point of celebrations is that they ought to be relatively rare. What makes a celebration possible is the daily grind.

In fact, I don’t think you’re celebrating the accomplishment. I think you’re celebrating the commitment and sacrifice, the long-term dedication to the small daily tasks that make the celebration so meaningful. The last mile of the ride in suburban Tucson felt pretty good, and we enjoyed our visit to Monkey Burger. But those moments are more satisfying when we remember the difficult, lonely miles in the wasteland of New Mexico.

So don’t forget to celebrate. But don’t focus exclusively on the end. Remember the hard work and shared sacrifice that makes the celebration worthwhile.

And…please don’t forget that every ending is also a beginning. This journey isn’t finished.

I hope you’ve caught the vision of this journey of hope, and I hope you understand that one of our purposes is social justice. We want to help feed hungry kids by partnering with the children’s feeding initiative at CONVOY OF HOPE.

We don’t beg for money, but we don’t shy away from the need, either. CONVOY feeds 125,000 kids every day, and we all know that’s the small tip of a very large problem.

If  you’ve been inspired by this crazy journey, please click the chain ring and support CONVOY’S work. $10 feeds a child for a month–that doesn’t solve the problem, but it does change the world for one child.
