When Is God Good?

Somebody once asked Corrie Ten Boom  when God was good. She offered a very wise answer.

“We like to say God is good when it doesn’t rain on our Sunday School picnic. But I believe God was just as good when I watched my sister die in a concentration camp.”

I want that to be the background as I tell you about an unanticipated turn Florida Hope Tour 2013 has taken.

A couple of days ago I told you I acquired an infection which didn’t seem like a big deal at the time. Turns out it was more serious than anyone thought. So I’m in a Tallahassee hospital with a somewhat nasty staff infection in my left leg.

Earlier this week in his final speech, Pope Benedict said it seemed to him that at times the Lord was sleeping. I believe nothing could be further from the truth. God is right here and He is in control of this as He is with all things.

I’m not telling you this to complain or to gain sympathy. I know those of you who are following this ride care about us, and I want you to know the circumstances. But I am as sure right now that God is good as I was three weeks ago when I was cruising along gorgeous Atlantic beaches.

God will redeem this and use it for good as He always does. Becky and I appreciate your support, encouragement, and your prayers.

On the “ride” front, we’ve come up with a unique way to complete the 1,000 miles. The members of our team from IJM FREEDOM TOUR 2012 have generously offered to ride their bikes and “donate” the miles. Their generosity and support humbles us. Sometimes the best thing you can do is accept help from friends. That’s what we’re doing.

I am thinking of you and sending all the energy I can to help levitate your discomfort.
Get well soon. You are my inspiration and have been a beacon of light.

Amen my friend. Amen. Praying for the healing and the Rom 8:28 stuff. I believe a big ol’ Rom 8:28 nugget is coming your way today. Can’t wait to read about it!
