Happy Monday!
This week’s unexpected developments re-taught the importance of today’s word-of-the-week…
MISSION
I’ve never been a fan of official mission statements. In many organizations they’re fancy words that don’t have much impact on what actually happens.
Most of you are aware of the unfortunate injury that impacted the end of our Florida Tour. If not, details are here. I’m out of the hospital, and Becky and I are working our way home.
But…I wasn’t able to complete the 1000-mile goal of the tour. So the question arises: was the tour a failure?
Well—it depends.
You can’t know if you failed unless you know what you were trying to accomplish. You need to understand the mission.
RICH’S RIDE MISSION STATEMENT
- Demonstrate that it’s possible to overcome adversity and accomplish big dreams.
- Speak to a variety of audiences with a message of hope, possibility, and God’s faithfulness.
- Raise funds and awareness for worthy humanitarian causes.
Fairly clear, right? Absolutely nothing about our mission has anything to do with a number of miles. The point is that you might do really well at the activities you’re doing without accomplishing what you’re trying to accomplish.
We’re still completing this tour. More people to talk with about hope. More opportunities to tell the story of Convoy of Hope.
So what’s your mission? At your job, in your family, at church? Are you just doing stuff? Do you know why?
Lots of folks work hard, do well, and have a nagging feeling they’re not getting where they want to go. Often that’s because they didn’t specify a destination.
Maybe we shouldn’t begin this week by resolving to run faster of more efficiently. Maybe we need to make sure we’re running in the desired direction.
