Sunny And Will

Okay, I’m confused.

Yesterday morning we went to the hotel parking lot to help Rich get started on his ride. We met this interesting guy named Will and his dog Sunny.

Will told us he’s homeless. I’m not sure what that means, but I did notice Will’s bike had a lot of stuff on it. He said he was carrying everything he owned on his bike and the trailer he was towing.

That trailer was a cool idea, and that’s why I’m confused. See, Will’s dog gets to be with him all the time. He rides in that neat trailer!

How come Rich doesn’t have one of those? I think that would be the coolest thing ever. I could run along until I get tired, then I could ride in the trailer just like Sunny. That way I’d get to be with him all the time.

I know Rich loves me and likes having me around. Someone should suggest one of those cool trailers to him. I’ll bet he just hasn’t thought of it.

Another thing about Will—he said he’s riding his bike to help homeless people keep their dogs. I guess when people lose their homes they often have to give away their dogs, too. That’s terrible!

I’m not sure how riding a bike with all his stuff will help, but I’m in favor of anything that keeps dogs and their people together. I don’t know what it’s like to lose a home, but I can’t imagine losing Becky or Rich.

This is Rich. I agree with Monte. I’m not sure how Will’s bike ride will help homeless folks and their pets. I don’t think Will is, either. At least not yet.

But Will’s got a dream, and he sincerely believes Jesus has gotten him this far. So if he wants to follow his dream, I’m certainly not going to tell him to stop.

At least he’s out there trying, taking a shot. He stopped to take a picture of our trailer because he wanted to know how we got started. We talked for a few minutes and he left excited.

Maybe Will’s just a crazy homeless guy. Maybe he can’t possibly change the world. Maybe an old bald crippled guy can’t ride a handcycle around Florida.

Hope changes what’s possible.

Maybe you noticed Will holding a copy of RELENTLESS GRACE. He couldn’t afford to buy it, so Becky gave it to him.

We meet a lot of people like that, folks who might benefit from one of the books but can’t afford it. When it’s one or two folks we can hand them a book. When it’s a roomful, we can’t.

If you’d like to help us address this need, would you consider purchasing a number of books for donation? Learn about our Book Benefactor program.

A nice 49-mile cruise on Tuesday from Cocoa to Sebastian got us to 284 total miles. Tuesday was rare on a RICH’S RIDE tour—a true hotel-to-hotel ride.

Days like this make things easier for Becky. In the morning she can send me down the road and take some time to organize, return the zillion emails and phone calls from overnight, and do some of her own stuff before a day of babysitting me on the road. In the evening she can unpack without having to load everything into the trailer.

Today should be another hotel-to-hotel day from Sebastian to Port St Lucie. Then things get a little crazy again with some speaking and media stuff as we approach Miami. Crazy in a good way. That’s why we came, right?

WHERE’S RICH?
