Hope

Once you choose hope, anything’s possible. ~ Christopher Reeve

I dislike the abrupt endings that characterize holidays. There’s all that time of preparation and anticipation, then the big day comes and goes and we flock back to the stores. Thankfulness suddenly turns to tragedy as bargain hunters trample the poor guy assigned to open the door.

That’s one aspect of “hope” that’s especially appealing–there’s no sudden end. Hope allows me to always look forward with confidence to the prospect of limitless possibility.

Our culture too frequently misinterprets hope as a wish–I hope my numbers are chosen in the lottery. But for me, hope is different. Hope is expectation rooted in faith, a certainty that doesn’t depend on good fortune or the choices of others.

I’m glad that HOPE isn’t a holiday. I’m thankful for endless opportunities to savor successes and to try again when I fall short.

I’m grateful for the incredible gift of potential contained within each moment when I choose to give hope another chance.
