Some Easter Thoughts

A heart that didn’t beat – and then it did.

Each Easter I think about what it was like. That first heartbeat, that first breath.

Dead. Then alive.

I know, Jesus as God knew all of this ahead of time. But Jesus as fully human experienced it, in real time.

We know Easter is about Jesus rising from the dead. But I can’t help wondering what the experience was like, in that moment, for Jesus the human being.

He spent three years telling people about this upside-down kingdom in which power is about sacrificial love rather than control and force. Then he walked the talk – the king sacrificed everything because he loves you and me.

He made it abundantly clear that he was serious, and then he said, “Follow Me.”

+ + +

Our Home of Hope just moved to a new location. As the kids adjust to their new environment, the staff continues to deal with local authorities who seem determined to create unnecessary obstacles.

I believe Jesus is right there, holding that situation in his hands. I believe he supports and blesses the missionaries who work so hard to provide for the kids. He loves them more than you and I can imagine.

He knows first-hand about abuse and injustice, about moving from darkness into light.

He also knows the absolute power of sacrificial love.

I’m thinking about that first heartbeat.

I’m thinking about “Follow Me.”
