Rejoice!

In the Parable of the Lost Sheep, Jesus talked about the upside-down values of the kingdom.

Here’s the story of one of our kids – names & details sanitized for safety.

When “Sumi” turned 18, “Marta” decided it was time for Sumi to learn her origin story.

As a young girl, Marta was trafficked by her family and forced into sexual bondage. She believed this would be her life forever.

When Marta became too old to be “useful” as a prostitute, she became a madam. Still in bondage, she met a young pregnant woman – also enslaved. This woman was determined to abort the baby she knew she couldn’t care for.

Marta urged her to make a different decision, and urgently prayed that the baby would be born healthy. Through a difficult process, that’s exactly what happened.

But this young woman still knew she couldn’t care for a child. Through her contacts with Project Rescue, Marta was able to adopt the baby and arrange for them to be taken into a Project Rescue safe house.

The baby was Sumi, and in that safe house two lives were radically changed.

Marta was able to minister to other women. She thought she was destined for a life of slavery, but God used her experiences and transformed her into a voice for the gospel and an instrument of rescue.

And Sumi? She grew in hope and freedom into a strong, independent young woman. She transitioned from the Home of Hope and obtained a college degree.

Best of all, Sumi knows and follows Jesus.

She says Marta will always be her mom, and she’s grateful to her birth mother for the difficult decision she made.

One woman, whose horrific story was used by God in a powerful way to rescue one special child.

One lost lamb, rescued and restored. And Jesus says there’s rejoicing in heaven.
