Distracted Or Focused

Occasionally I write something that makes me think.

Last time I said, “It’s worth stopping to remember that it’s not all about the ‘stuff’ that’s important but can be distracting.”

I suspect I’m not the only one who gets distracted by seemingly important details.

I don’t advocate ignoring the details of daily life. For example, as we prepare for the FREEDOM TOUR CLASSIC we encounter endless important tasks. We’d be irresponsible if we didn’t choose safe routes, recruit volunteers, design jerseys and T-shirts…

It’s a long list – I’m sure you have one as well. Pretending those tasks don’t exist simply isn’t an option.

But – the tasks and details are not the thing, the center, the part that matters. When we forget, when we focus on all the stuff that comprises our daily life – even when it’s important stuff – we’re distracted.

Because all that stuff isn’t what it’s about.

The original plan was simple: all people living in right relationship with God and with one another.

Jesus died to repair what we destroyed, to establish God’s kingdom here and now and forever.

So, let’s finish our taxes and do all the other pleasant and unpleasant tasks. But as we do all the important stuff, what if we try to stay focused on what matters.

All people. Living in right relationship with God and with one another.
