God, Thinking, And Kids

Thinking about our own thinking is difficult.

I’ve been pondering all week the question of what I think about when I think about God. My desire, of course, is to align my thoughts with His.

As I said last time, I know one thing for sure: my thoughts are not God’s thoughts. But I wonder if it makes sense to ask a more refined question.

What does God think about a specific situation or topic?

We can still trip over our tendency to paste our preferences onto God. But it’s easier to search Scripture for some guidance about how God might want us to think about specific circumstances.

So – some ideas regarding God’s thoughts about the kids at the Home of Hope.

I know He desires whole, healthy relationships. I know He opposes abuse and injustice.

Some folks may respond, “So why doesn’t He do something about it?”

I’d say He is. Long-term, the whole story is about redeeming and reclaiming, about one day everyone living as He originally intended. That’s the entire big arc of scripture.

But – what about the short-term?

Maybe, that’s our job. Jesus called us to seek justice for marginalized folks, to promote healthy relationships by loving our neighbors.

What if you and I are at least part of how God thinks about bringing justice to this group of kids?

How would that change our behavior?
