Noise

“I don’t ever want to add to all the noise.”

I chuckled when my friend Jon wrote that last week, because I often wonder if that’s what I’m doing – simply adding to the noise. It’s why I post only three times per week. I really hope I’m saying something worthwhile, beyond simply writing because I’m supposed to.

We’ve got enough noise.

I started writing, and published RELENTLESS GRACE, because I believed I had a story worth sharing. After lots of years and more words than I can imagine, it’s easy to ask the question I asked last time: Why Keep Going?

And the answer is clear: 22 kids.

I don’t continue writing because I think I have some special insight about following Jesus. In fact, I’m sure I frequently get it wrong.

I’m pushed forward by a quote I’ve shared frequently: You may choose to turn away, but you can never again say that you did not know.

Jesus used those words to create a pretty radical change in my life. He’ll do the same for others – once they know.

I write these days for the same reason we do the FREEDOM TOUR. I want to make sure as many people as possible know about our 22 kids.

Someone asked me recently, “What about the bigger issue of human trafficking? Why focus on one Home of Hope and one group of kids”

My answer is simple – because that’s where we can make a difference.

And, because once you know about our 22 kids, you can never again say you didn’t know about modern day slavery.

It’s tempting to turn away. It’s easier and more comfortable to turn away. From human trafficking and other forms of injustice that haven’t landed on our doorstep (yet).

We can’t do much about that. Heart changes are up to Jesus.

Our task, yours and mine, is to make sure people know.
