Don’t You Care?

“God isn’t worried.”

I made it yesterday’s quote after writing about it a bit last Friday because I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s one of those things we know is true.

But as I fuss about the details of daily life, I imagine Jesus sitting calmly beside me, waiting for me to start a conversation. Maybe even nudging me gently in the ribs, reminding me He took a nap while the disciples worried the storm would sink their boat.

They thought He didn’t care. Turns out, He cared more than they could possibly imagine. He simply wasn’t worried.

I’m too much like those disciples. Every obstacle is a raging storm threatening to sink my boat, and I’m screaming into the wind, “Don’t you care? Can’t you see how much this matters?”

Ever been there?

When I stop fussing and actually think about it, there’s something quite reassuring about the image of Jesus taking a nap during my storm.

He loves me more than I can comprehend. If He’s not worried, maybe it’s going to be okay. Maybe He really will use this obstacle to lead us to something better.

Maybe I can be at peace.
