Yesterday I posted this quote:
“Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?
We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
Magi (wise men) showed up in Jerusalem. They sought the baby whose birth had been announced by a star.
In the kids’ play, the wise men appear at the manger with the shepherds, the angels, and some animals. But it probably didn’t happen that way.
These guys traveled a long distance, probably via camel, after seeing the star.
Why?
Maybe it was just astronomical curiosity, but then why say, “We… have come to worship him”?
Why in the world did these “wise men” make a long, difficult journey to worship a baby whose birth they believed had been announced by a star?
And why did Matthew find this episode so important?
I’ve read commentaries and historical analysis. Like a lot of that stuff, I leave thinking okay, but…
Something miraculous led these men to Jesus. For me, at least, there is a message each Christmas in their story. It’s a message I don’t ever want to take for granted.
Where is this baby?
He invites me to continue to seek Him, and to worship Him.
