Justice For Our Kids

What does justice for the kids at the Home of HOPE look like in Jesus’ eyes?

I think it looks different than society’s version of justice. I think it’s not about rules and punishment and holding people accountable.

When Jesus talks about justice, He’s talking about “setting things right.” He’s talking about re-creating the circumstances that were intended by God before people messed things up.

For our kids, that would mean whole, healthy families, moms and dads who loved and cared for them. On this side of heaven, that’s pretty unlikely for these children.

The best we can do is a safe place with adults who care for them, surrounded by a community steeped in love. A place that provides for their physical needs, for their education, for counseling to deal with the horrible trauma they’ve endured in their young lives.

The Home of Hope offers our kids an opportunity to grow up in freedom with hope for the future God always intended for them.

I think it’s significant that we’re asked to “seek” justice. “Achieving” justice, finally setting things right, is Jesus’ job. We’re invited to play a small role in His big story of justice.

We do what we can, where we are, with what we have…and trust Him for the outcome.
