Is This Okay?

I’ve been thinking lately about how we support the kids at the Home of Hope.

Honestly, I often wish I could do something different. I’d like to travel there and help with repairs. I’d like to sit with the kids and listen to their stories, maybe help with their homework. I’d like to be more actively involved somehow in the process of restoration and recovery.

Given my circumstances, of course, I can’t do any of that, and sometimes I feel a bit helpless. But we aren’t asked to sit around and fuss about what we can’t do. We’re asked to do the best we can with what we have.

I can ride my bike and invite others to ride with me. Together we can use our rides to raise awareness and provide opportunities to get involved financially.

I’m asked to ride bikes and collect money, but I’d rather do something else.

My friend Woody LOVES fundraising for our kids, and he’s really good at it. He gets lots of donations from his huge circle of friends and supporters, but I get a chuckle out of his stories about less-than-typical contributions.

At his neighborhood garage sale, Woody set up a display with kids’ photos and some signs explaining his mission. He said several people stopped by to talk, and a few people ended up donating.

One guy came back as he was taking down his display and handed him the bag of coins shown in the photo. He wanted to know if this would be OK as a donation.

Of course, Woody thanked him for his generosity.

We make a big deal out of those who make large contributions. Nothing wrong with that.

I can’t help wondering, though, what Jesus will do with those few coins. Somehow, I’m certain when we can finally see the whole picture, it will be remarkable.
