On a practical level, isn’t it about being guided by eternal principles instead of just following the rules, doing what’s right rather than what’s legal?
I talk a lot about my aversion to rules and formulas as ways to control behavior. First, it doesn’t work, not long-term. You can play whack-a-mole for a while, but folks don’t like being herded and sooner or later they’ll rebel.
As Creator, Jesus knows how we operate. He knows we’re designed to follow the light.
