Knowing

“How do you know it’s true?”

A guy who loves cycling joined the FREEDOM TOUR CLASSIC last summer. He wrote a nice note saying he had a great time, and appreciated the opportunity to support the kids at the Home of Hope.

He wondered why faith was an important part of the day, whether we might turn some people off by emphasizing Jesus. I was intrigued by his question:

“How do you know it’s true?”

The best, most honest, answer I could offer is, “I don’t KNOW it’s true. That’s why it’s called ‘faith’.

I think faith raises lots of questions. One of my favorite phrases comes from Dr. Dick Foth: “I don’t know how that works.”

I doesn’t mean I know nothing…I just means I don’t know everything.

I’m OK with that.

I also believe in science, and I’ll be honest…the science guy in me has lots of questions.

Fortunately, the science guy knows God created science. He knows there’s something broader, deeper, and more profound than logic and the scientific method.

I’m OK with that, too.
