Legacy

I’m speaking to a group of men this weekend.

Telling a bit of my story, talking about the FREEDOM TOUR, and I think I’ll talk a little bit about legacy and the impact we make.

We spend a lot of time wanting to make a difference, trying to connect the dots between our actions and their impacts. I think my message this weekend will be that often we don’t know how what we do touches other people.

I spent 35 years in public school classrooms, doing a lot of things that were intentionally designed to impact my students. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, but I can’t tell you the number of times a former student has approached me and told me how something that happened in our classroom changed their life.

Most of the time, it wasn’t one of the epic events I planned. Usually, it’s not even something I remember.

I believe this is the result of a core life principle based on a familiar verse:And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him…”

Jesus invited us to follow him, to do life as He did it. And if we do that, as best we can, we’re assured God will use our efforts for good…even when we can’t see it, even when we mess up, even when it’s not what we intended.

The core principle: It’s our job to follow and obey, to do what we can, where we are, with what we have…and trust Him for the outcome.
