It’s been a while since I’ve talked about 300 touches.
It’s one of my core thoughts about Jesus, and it comes from this question:
What if it takes 300 touches to really see Jesus?
In this context, a touch means any sort of interaction or impression, sort of like advertising where the idea doesn’t always sink in the first time.
Of course I’m not advocating that we advertise Jesus or that there’s anything magic about the number 300. I’m just tossing out the idea that maybe a lot of people need more than that one amazingly spiritual experience to finally see Jesus.
What if they see Him gradually, one “touch” at a time?
If that’s true, then I’ll bet a lot of those touches along the way go unnoticed. They’re the small acts of love, the ways we represent Jesus without even realizing we’re doing it, that move people just a little closer to him.
And we have to think about ourselves every day, every time we encounter somebody, as though we might be touch #147. And we’ll never know it.
I think about the Freedom Tour like this. Some people show up who don’t know very much about Jesus or who have a lot of questions. It’s not our job to preach at them or save them or to be that miraculous touch #300 that puts them over the top.
It’s our job to be aware enough to be touch #147 when the opportunity arises.
