What I Feel Like

I used to think the perfect retirement meant doing what I felt like doing.

Work? Fine. Play? Fine, too. Take a nap? Travel? Watch TV? Retirement meant doing what I felt like doing when I felt like doing it.

I quickly learned that “when I feel like it” isn’t a recipe for a meaningful life.

Now I believe we were designed for commitment.

Becky and I spend a lot of time, year-round, on the FREEDOM TOUR. We could relax more, vacation more. We could do whatever we feel like, but…

We made a commitment.

We made a commitment to our team. To 22 kids at the Home of Hope. To Jesus.

Those kinds of commitments aren’t burdens, they’re opportunities. They’re a chance to create something meaningful and lasting. They’re a chance to follow Jesus’ teachings.

Seek justice. Love mercy. Walk humbly.

I’m grateful for the opportunities of retirement. I’m old enough to need a little extra rest, and I appreciate the flexibility.

I’m also grateful for the FREEDOM TOUR.

I don’t want to waste the days God gives me doing only what I feel like doing.
