A Small Army

The FREEDOM TOUR CLASSIC runs on a small army of volunteers.

It’s my sorta funny tagline as we ask people to hold a sign, ring a cowbell, or do one of the other important tasks that make this day so much fun. An important cause. Great people. Good food. What’s not to love?

Why doesn’t everyone jump in?

Of course, everyone doesn’t see what I see. I forget to walk in the other guy’s shoes.

Just between you and me, I waste a lot of energy worrying and wondering about those who don’t sign up as volunteers, riders, or donors. What did I do wrong? How could I tell a better story? If I was more creative, more passionate, more…something…they would all get it, right?

In that worry, of course, I dismiss one of my core principles: Do what I can, where I am, with what I have, and trust Jesus for the outcome.

Let’s avoid the distraction of fussing about those who don’t show up.

Whatever we’re doing, let’s invite people into the circle and make it the best possible place to hang out. Connect, invest, celebrate the opportunity to make a difference.
