Our 2015 team posed for a group photo in Ordway.
I’m not sure we meant to have our laundry as the background. Or, maybe we did.
Earlier that day, we arrived under a blistering sun and temps over 100 degrees. As we rested in the shade, Jeff spotted a way to cool off. We debated, he hesitated, but finally silliness took over.
Between Ordway and Trinidad – hot, dusty, on a deserted road in the middle of nowhere – why wouldn’t we get stuck at a red light?
We were kind-of hustling to get packed. Sandy and Doyle had this really comfy air mattress that was taking too long to deflate, so they decided to help the process along. I wish I had a video of these “seasoned citizens” rolling around on the floor giggling like little kids.
On the most miserable day of our 9 FREEDOM TOURS, the 2017 team left Salida in a chilly drizzle that quickly became a cold, driving rainstorm. By the time they completed 25 miles to Buena Vista everyone admitted they were waiting for someone else to be the first to quit.
But no one gave up. The rain stopped, we found dry clothes, and the team completed their ride to Leadville.
Amazing what happens, the sacrifices you’ll make, when you’re part of something bigger than yourself.
