Conversations About Blessings

Last in a series about how I’m talking to Jesus about the COLORADO MOUNTAIN TOUR. First parts here, here, and here.

There may be some discussion about this one.

Honestly, my most frequent specific request is “Your will be done.” Along with the courage to actually mean it. I’m better at the saying than the doing.

I hesitate to thank Him for “blessings” when things go my way. Because what would it mean when they don’t?

Despite fervent prayer, a friend’s infant niece dies from a common, no-reason-in-the-world-this-should-happen infection.

Another friend’s granddaughter, born prematurely, recovers and thrives.

Can I decide, from my limited perspective, that God chose to bless one family and not the other?

I don’t know how this works. I choose to lean on the promise the He uses all things for good. I try – and mostly fail – to thank Him in all circumstances, not just those that go my way.

I know I’m stepping into a whole field of theological landmines, especially for USAmerican Christians who want to believe we’re specially blessed.

I base my thinking on Jesus’ guidance about how we should pray, which seems to me to be an invitation to conversation.

Our team departs this morning. As we travel and ride, I would love to hear your thoughts.
