Paying Attention

I think we take connections for granted.

We have this spiffy new donation page for the FREEDOM TOUR. It’s powered by software written and maintained by a team in Australia. It’s been fun getting the new process up and running.

Of course, no software is perfect. The true test of any product is what happens when there’s a problem.

A couple of days ago we encountered a minor issue. Remember, these guys are down under, so we’re basically on opposite work-sleep cycles. I sent an email – next morning, Eric responds with a friendly request for more info. I respond, one more cycle, and the issue is resolved…complete with a “Cheers” from Eric.

You might think, “What’s the big deal? Eric just did his job.”

I think, “I communicated clearly and easily with a guy halfway around the world. We worked together to solve a technical problem with his software on my website hosted on a server in Europe. How can you not take a step back and be just a bit amazed by that?”

Keep going…this connection between Eric and me allows donations to flow smoothly to kids rescued from human trafficking. Which means those kids receive food, shelter, education, trauma care, and an opportunity to live and grow in freedom.

Maybe you think, “So what? This kind of thing happens millions of times every day.”

I think, “Yeah, and if we stop and put that statement in context, isn’t it a bit of a miracle?”

Beck to my opening premise – perhaps we take these kinds of connections for granted. Perhaps we ought to recognize and celebrate Eric’s generosity and creativity. If we want more of these simple, everyday acts of sacrificial love, perhaps we should appreciate and reward them.

Here’s another remarkable connection. In the photo, that conglomeration of black squiggles, dots, and squares is a QR CODE. Point your phone’s camera at it and my donation page opens. Give it a try. (Or go old school and click the link.) You can support my ride this summer and help bring hope and freedom to our kids.

I promise…I’ll never take that for granted.
