If you’ve been around church, you know about The Great Commission.
“Go and make disciples of all nations…” It’s the last thing Jesus said on Earth. Tell others the Good News.
Interesting – that phrase (Great Commission) isn’t part of scripture. Someone added it later for emphasis.

Keith Giles referred recently to The Greater Commission. His phrase got me thinking.
What could be greater than great?
When Jesus was asked about the “greatest commandment,” He didn’t talk about spreading the word and expanding the circle. His answer was clear and simple.
Love God, and love your neighbor.
Just like today, theological experts in Jesus’ day tried every trick to twist and refute His words and ideas, because He threatened their power and control. He knew, of course, that His kind of love involved sacrifice.
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

I don’t think “laying down my life” always means dying.
Maybe it’s riding my bike for a cause rather than for my personal enjoyment. It might mean doing a route that stretches my ability or seems too easy if it encourages someone else. Perhaps it’s something as mundane as wearing a mask, not out of personal concern (I’ve been vaccinated) but to avoid possibly spreading a virus to others. Or simply because it helps others feel a bit safer.
Jesus willingly sacrificed His life, and all the freedom in the universe, for His friends. For you and for me. And He said, “Follow Me.”
Love God. Love your neighbor. The Greater Commission.

At the FREEDOM TOUR we don’t talk about dying for the kids at the HOME OF HOPE.
We do talk about sacrificing, about seeking justice. We talk about loving our neighbor.
The Greater Commission.
