I’m a fan of “simple.”
Not simplistic, or superficial, or misleading over-simplification. As a leader/mascot on the FREEDOM TOUR team I always look for simple, straightforward ways to express why we do what we do.
2020 was a big lesson in trust. I was certain COVID would create a lost cycling season. Our team convinced us to keep taking one step at a time, and in the craziness we had in many ways our most successful year since we began in 2013.
The lesson is simple: work together, do our best, and trust God for the outcome.
It’s a principle explained by Jesus just before He left His friends for the final time:
Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”
He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Jesus clearly told them not to stress about the details of the outcome. Instead, He promised to provide the tools required to do the tasks for which He prepared them.
Our hope isn’t based on results. It’s based on faith in the promises of the One who holds the result in His hands.

We do bike tours with lots of people, so we plan and work out the details as much as possible. Then we remind ourselves that the details and plans aren’t what matters.
We care about relationships and about supporting kids rescued from human trafficking. And we care about following Jesus.
We’ll leave the results to Him.
