Good And Bad Things

I may have a new philosophy of life.

Okay, maybe that’s a bit over the top. But I heard a statement that stopped me in my tracks. I’m not even sure about the specific topic, but that’s not important.

We don’t do bad things to stop bad things. We do good things to stop bad things.

When we’re afraid of what the bad guys might do. When we’re absolutely certain we’re right. When something so horribly, awfully, indescribably evil will happen, it’s so tempting to believe we have to stop it by any means necessary.

I don’t know about you, but when I see children bought and sold for sex I want frontier justice. I want John Wayne and Matt Dillon to gather a heavily-armed posse and end the problem once and for all. I want the kids rescued and the trafficking stopped by any means necessary. If laws are broken, if people are harmed, if wars are started – well, too bad.

That’s what I want, how I feel. Frontier justice might feel good, in the short term, but it’s not justice.

Following Jesus means a commitment to something beyond frontier justice. It means doing what’s right, from God’s perspective, regardless of short-term consequences.

Following Jesus means bad things are bad things, and we do our best to avoid them – even in pursuit of a good cause.

We don’t do bad things to stop bad things.

Instead…

We do good things to stop bad things.

At the FREEDOM TOUR we try to do a good thing to stop a bad thing. We ride bikes and make friends and have a lot of fun, and we support kids rescued from human trafficking. We have exciting plans for 2021.

Please check out the website and make plans to join us.
