Will It Be Okay?

Yes, it is going to be okay.

I know that, because I know who holds my future in His hands. I absolutely, positively know it is going to be okay.

What I don’t know is when it will be okay, or exactly what okay will look like.

I believe in science and math. I’m a fan of education, and I reject, in the words of author Isaac Asimov, “…the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

I’m glad smart people are working on this. I try to understand as much as I can. I listen to their guidance. But my hope doesn’t rest on their ability to predict the future.

Hope is a confident expectation about the future based on faith.

In tough situations, people lean on all sorts of things. You might place your faith in science. Or in a politician or a political ideology. Or in yourself and your individual resilience.

I know it’s going to be okay. I don’t need to know the details because I know Jesus holds my future in His hands.

I said this a couple of weeks ago: This is an opportunity to trust Jesus. It’s an opportunity to do our best, to work together, to support each other, to follow the recommendations of experts, but to base our hope on Jesus.

It’s going to be okay.
